Hi everybody - dumb question, but I'm having a hell of a time with this schrader valve just to check fuel pressure. 1989 F-250 7.5L 460, 260000 miles. I bought attachments that screw on here, and it leaks gas when I hook it up, but when I try to test it, pressure isn't actually reaching the guage, so somehow the connection still isn't being made. Thanks for any advice you might offer.
Dont use teflon tape; Its not a pipe thread. Youre probably missing the little gasket inside the adapter. I agree with the comment above. Remove the valves core from the schrader valve and hook the gauge fitting up directly. Make sure you have a gasket in your fitting. If its missing, you can probably steal a gasket out of a regular valve cap.
Thanks everybody - this was a great education on Schrader valves - before this I just popped the guage on and off and didn't really give it a second thought, on other vehicles I've owned. I ended up getting a removal tool kit on Amazon for 7.99 and pulling it so I could do the fuel pressure tests I wanted to, which showed low pressure key off right away, so I threw a new filter in it, and lo and behold, instead of a rough idle and dying at stop signs occasionally, it's back to that beautiful, barely perceptible deep steady hum that comes with the 7.5. Like driving Grandma's couch down the road. Anyways, thank you all again for taking the time to comment, it means a lot.
