The ends of my original drag link contain a spring in a housing, on each end of the shaft. They connect to a steel ball stud, much like a tie rod end. I assume these are to cushion the road shock when you hit potholes and other bumps in the road. I would like to change to an adjustable drag link. This is a tube with an actual tie rod end in each end of it. Basically a short tie rod. Does anyone have any experience with this change? Does it make much difference to "road feel" or shock to the steering wheel on a bumpy road? I think many vehicles use this type of drag link so it should be OK. I'm just wondering if other F1 Owners have done this and if there was a noticeable difference.
I'm not exactly sure how to reply to you directly so we'll see how this works out. Yes your images are correct. The reason for my question is that I have installed a Toyota steering box and now my tire hits the drag link on a sharp turn. I want to install a tie-rod type drag link in order to have some adjustment on the length of it.
As best I know, changing the length of the drag link only affects the centering of the steering and not the end to end movement and thus won't correct your tire rubbing issue.
I personally have not done a Toyota conversion, but it is fairly popular choice among those who do change things up. Hopefully someone with such experience chimes in. To attract that knowledgebase, I would consider having the title changed to something nalong the lines of "Toyota Steering - Tires Rubbing Drag Link" to get pointers on addressing the issue. (I think this can be done by editing your first post title field).
A close to bolt on set up is if you use a 57-60 pitman arm and 57-60 drag link. However, be prepared as the 57-60 drag link for a f100 has been out of stock for quite some time
edit
my iinformation is for a 53-56 as the steering box splines are the same 53/56 to 57/60
but the pitman arm style you have is similar to the 57-60 as the 57-60 has a hole on the bottom end and not a ball end like the 53-56
also the end that the drag link attached to the front axle is also different on the 57-64 as it doesn't have the ball style end. It has the hole in it to accommodate the tie rod style connection
so I think a 57-60 draglink or maybe a 61-64 drag link will work for you on the steering box end but I'm not sure about the axle connection end
