254 Cam Bearings

Right now I'm working on a 254 flathead 6 cylinder for a customer. Just getting some parts figured out and it looks like cam bearings are not easy to come by. The dimensions ID and OD are the same as the ones used in the 215,223, 262 and also the Y block V8s. I was wondering if anyone had substituted a set.

I have not heard of that size motor before but I also dont know the older stuff.
You may want to ask this question in the truck area for the year that motor would come in as they may have an answer.
Good luck

Today I was working on the 254 after boring the block to .030, fixing a seat, valve job etc and I installed a set of cam bearings intended for the 223 engine using my 292/312 installing tool. They fit and worked perfectly. The only real difference is that the 254 only uses one oil hole and these bearings have several holes. This makes no functional difference.

Good to hear it worked out for you.
Also thanks for posting this as it may help someone else who may find it on a search.

That's what I was thinking. There are 2 different sets of cam bearings offered for the 215,223 and 262 engines and any set will work just fine.

Another area that was a problem on this build was bearing availability. We could not find any rods and mains in standard size and this crank is really nice. The original bearings were in ok shape so I sent them off to Calico and had them polymer coated which worked out nice.
