Did small block ones not have some necked down, perforated section on the end into the box? Perhaps it was to act like a resonator

Swear my 88 did, maybe it was an early thing.

No. I have an ‘87 and an ‘89 with 5.0L’s. There is no “necked down, perforated section” anywhere.

Not what I thought you were saying. That section is inside the air box. I thought you were saying there was something sticking out from the exposed tubing.

Ah okay, bad description on my part. That tube above, was that on all small blocks and any clue why two different tubes? Perhaps the 7.5 exempt from drive by noise as 3/4 ton and the 4.9 could not make enough noise

I used some snips forever ago to open it up, honestly made no difference aside from noise. Then I found out about the 4.9/7.5 tube and run that now.
