Extended warranty

Ford ESP versus e.g. assurance for a Florida resident. Assuming the cost for both is the same.
appreciate anyone’s experiences.

We had EasyCare on our 2018 F150 and it more than paid for itself. Extremely happy we went with it when we bought the truck.

I would not buy any 3rd party warranty. Go OEM-backed or don't get one. Many 3rd party extended warranties, while cheaper, have fine print that gets them out of making repairs, such as fasteners not being covered. Which means if you lose a head gasket, they will blame the fastener for stretching too much and becoming weak, and deny coverage. My in-laws had a Northstar where the steel threaded insert pulled out of the block - a manufacturing defect - but the warranty company considered the threaded insert a fastener and denied coverage.

If you're going to go third-party, read through EVERYTHING with a fine-tooth comb. There's going to be a 'gotcha' in there that will help them weasel out of paying.

Clearly you have to be careful. My experience with Easycare was great. I had a transmission, timing set, seat heaters and rear camera done and never paid more than the $200 deductible. Like I said, the warranty more than paid for itself.

Some of these aftermarket warrantee companies go belly up. I suspect even on purpose here and there,
every 10 years or so. Gets them out of a lot of warrantee claims.
I would only do aftermarket if they covered things factory does not, and been in business like 15-20 years.
Big upside for them is if you already have local mechanic you like, he can submit claims.

This is my opinion as well.

I worked at dealerships for years in sales and management, and saw plenty of horror stories of 3rd party insurance doing everything they could to get out of paying a claim.

OEM coverage or nothing is my personal choice. I went with the Ford ESP for my 2024 SD. Unfortunately being in Florida your purchase options are limited. For most of the rest of us Granger and Flood make it much more reasonable to buy.

I'm a nothing kind of guy. But then again I get rid of a truck every year.

Personally, I'm not interested in third party warranties. Even the cost a few more bucks, I would stick with an extended factory warranty.

Fortunately, Granger is licensed to sell Ford ESP on new vehicles to Florida residents.

Wow. Is that recent? In years past users here were lamenting not being able to buy from them do to some state laws designed to protect Florida businesses.

This is directly from Granger just a few years ago. Post # 4:

They may be able to now, but past posts have stated that Florida law prevents plans from being sold at a discount.

Extended factory warranty only goes so far, some of us keep our vehicles for a long time.

I am not sure of the legal specifics, but I am buying from them this week. I was told that they are allowed to sell a warranty with a new vehicle. I checked on the Florida CFO website and Granger Motors is licensed.

I wouldn't bother with an add on warranty if it's a new vehicle. Why would you if it has new vehicle factory coverage? Buy the add on later if you keep it long enough.

The cost goes up as time goes on, and some features like rental benefits and roadside assistance are available on day 1. The extended warranty does not replace or conflict with the factory warranty. It extends to the time period and miles selected after the factory one ends. If you buy now or later you have the same period of coverage. If you know that you want an extended warranty, buying it upfront gives you access to the additional benefits for the full period of time and costs a bit less.

The problem with 3rd party for me was the delay in getting approval. Sometimes is was days. Then there was always some part in the repair that was not covered. I.e. shop supplies was always one of the not covered pieces. So, you had your deductible. Plus some other charges they you a never notified of until you see the bill.
