New to me 1994 EB 351 slush box

Have had it a out a month now. Got it home 1k mile drive and the fuel pump quit. Have that changed and Have the following issues. Looking for some direction.
I have paperwork from previous owner for a remaned engine and trans.

1. Timing. It was at 10. And it was a slug. I pushed to 13 and it was a little better. So I kept going till 30 degrees and it began pinging. I pushed it back to 26 and it runs much better. Yes I un hooked the plastic doo dab. I have to assume balancer is off, but an engine like what it likes.
2. Power and mpg are still bad. Flat hyw is 12 to 13 at 70. Looks like the iac tps map 02 can all contribute to this. They are cheap enough do I just parts cannon it?
3. I have a slight surge at idle. And idle does not come down under 1k. I also have the same slight surge under mild accel or climbing hills. Assuming this is related to parts listed above.
4. Does the trans go 1,2 tc, to, or 1,2,3, tc,4?

Few gremlins to run down on this thing.

I believe they all were 3.55 gearing. It does have 33 inch tires snuck under it with no lift. The speedo is calibrated correctly. I tried pulling codes.

114 IAT out of range
116 coolant temp out of range. It's currently 0 out in garage.
625 elec psi control current low
636 trans oil temp out of range.

I am now reading about the caps in the computer that need to be changed. Looks like I need to parts cannon a little at it. Tps iac map caps

With the high idle, I'd look for vacuum leaks. Mpg is about right for a FSB. Surging could be the fuel pressure regulator. Cheap and easy fix. Could be related to a vacuum leak.

Got some parts today and dug in.

The iat sensor was incorrect due to orientation of plug. Cleaned all the gunk off the old one and reinstalled.

Started pulling plugs to see what they looked like. Could not be more perfect imo.

Changed fp reg. Not much change in fp old to new.

Looked for vac leaks. Was about to give up when idle changed around the egr. Found the mounting flange broken. Made a temporary block off and put it back together.

Took for a test drive. idle surge is atill there but less and lower rpm. Acceleration surge still there but less. Going to try and do the capacitors in ecm tomorrow. Need to get ready for v day crap.

Contuined further on the replacent of sensors. Have done them one by one to see what makes the most difference. Cleaning the iat, little better, replacing cap and rotor, no change. Fixing vac leak at the egr which was broken by sliding a piece of al between the gasket and egr was a big improvement. Dialed in the timing sweet spot was 26 to 27 degrees on my HB which can't be real advance was a big improvement. Replacing the idle control, no change. Replacing the tps was a big change. Replacing 02 sensor seemed to improve things, but wont know for a new tank of fuel. Waiting on map and correct capacitors to get here for the ecm.
So long story short there is no smoking gun on OBD 1 diagnostics. Fortunately the sensors are cheap enough to replace all at once and get ones rig running much better.
