Coil Springs For Dual Shock 4x4
OP,
We'd like to help and have already reached out to Moog on your behalf. We asked them to clarify the front spring options for your 1989 Ford F-150 4x4 4.9L with the factory dual front shocks/handling package. They weren’t concerned with whether the truck has dual front shocks, but they did say the correct spring (CC820, CC822, or CC824) depends on a few details.
To narrow it down, MOOG needs:

- Standard cab or not - We know this is a regular cab by your picture
- A/C equipped or non-A/C
460 did not come in a half ton with coil springs
F150 and F250 springs are the same as far as dimensions. I have 460 springs from an F250 4x2 in my '95 F150 4x4. The diesel springs I put in my SAE Bronco back in the day were from an F250 4x2.
Right, I think they are all the same diameter anyway, and the old 2 wheel drive ones are fine too for the newer ones
What diesel springs in SAE bronco and what does SAE mean? Straight axle? 2wd diesel springs?

Correct they're all 4" inner diameter.
They vary in wire thickness, winding spacing, and free length.
The 2wd f-250 coils are stiff and short, ~630 pounds per inch for Moog version (cc844). Good for lots of weight and no body roll. Stock half ton truck coils vary but are generally around 375 pounds per inch. Best I recall none are over 400 #/inch.

The big difference in the moog coil springs cc 820, cc822 & cc824 is in the weight capacity and free height. The spring wire diameter, spring rate and instslled height are the same.on the cc-822 & cc-824 13.0 inches the installed height of cc- 820 is 12..19
cc-820 1424 lbs duel shock
Cc-822 1230 lbs. 2wd and 4wd
Cc-824 1442 lbs. 4wd / hd
the duel shock braket is the same except for the extra shock mounting hole.
The duel shock , front lower shock mount and the sway bar mounting bracket add height to the lower spring mounting the shorter free length and probably the shorter install height.

From left to right the columns are: part number, the two end styles, free length (inches), installed length/height (inches), inner diameter (inches), wire thickness (inches), spring rate (lbs/inch), load (lbs), and spring type.

thanks everyone. much appreciated
anybody running kyb monomax, or gas adjust? wondering if the monomax will make the ride to rigid or harsh, but like the idea of a monotube.
i found a 1-3" lift part on kyb.com f565078 and f565080 for the dual shock set up. will i be good going with the cc824 and a camber adjuster, or will i require additional parts to keep the steering geometry civilized, close to stock as possible?
