Adding 5th wheel\gooseneck hitch mount?

We recently purchased a 2017 F250 Platinum, but it did not come with 5th wheel prep. Has anyone added that on their own? How difficult\expensive is it?

lots of videos on Youtube

lifting the bed is probably the hardest part unless you have a 2 post lift

Many threads on here about adding the factory mounting pucks.
You can also go the mounting rails way, cheaper and less work involved for install, but it leaves the rails in the bed floor permanently, so they can be in the way.

If you don't want to remove the bed you can install a B&W Turnover Ball Underbed kit. They run about $700 and look pretty simple to install.

If going this route, verify that it will let you change both rear shocks. I don't know if they got a re-design, but it was posted here that the first ones blocked one of them from coming on/off.

Edit: they must have got it fixed as one corner of the framework looks different.

Wicked Trucks also makes a shock relocation kit that solves this for 17-22 MY trucks too.

I kind of wish that I would have went ahead and added the 5th wheel prep kit when I ordered my truck, but so far I haven't needed it. In the future though, if I do I will likely just install there B&W kit and use that relocation kit for the shock... unless they have resolved it, which would be even better!

I went this route, worst part was the hole saw to the bed. Otherwise not bad at all to install in a driveway.

My kit, I installed in November of 2024 was notched to allow access to the shock mount:

Overall the kit has been great, I use a gooseball for my 5th wheel and having the bed easily accessible makes life a lot easier. If you do want to do the 5th wheel route they make a hitch that will drop right in:

in terms of expense it might be helpful for others to know if you are going to install it yourself and have all the tools OR want to install it your self and are going to buy the needed tools OR just take it to a shop and have them price out the parts and install.

theres no point of everyone responding as if you have all the tools and want to install your self vs you asking for cost of professional procurement and install.....since you did ask about expense vs difficulty or sourcing of parts.

I agree with everyone else in the thread, if you don't already have the factory puck system, it's cheaper and easier to go with something like the B&W Turnover Ball system and either get the Companion hitch for fifth wheels or an adapter to make the fifth wheel (presuming that's what you're going to pull) into a gooseneck. The B&W is one of the most robust aftermarket systems on the market, but not the only system. You can still add the factory 7-way round plug to the box, it will be another few holes and threading the harness down to where it meets the existing harness.

This route would mean you do NOT have to lift the bed, and is fewer holes to cut in your box, thus making the overall installation cost less.

Another option I've seen on here is guys go to a salvage yard and get the Ford setup at a pretty good price. Still dealing with box R/R though.
