Hey all, as the title states, I am wondering what overdrive options are available that will bolt to a 460 and live? I know the E4OD is an option, but I am trying to stay away from any electronically controlled options. Auto or manual, I would consider either. I do prefer an auto, because my ole lady will be driving the truck sometimes. But I guess a manual would be a good excuse to teach her stick as well.
Just wondering what to keep my eye out for as far as parts collection. I already have a clutch pedal assembly and a 460 bell in my shop, as well as a low miles 73 conti motor, D0 heads and a weiand intake. I would be sitting around 400 horse and 500 ft lbs, a very mild motor that would run on 93 pump gas.
The gear vendors is decent, but remember, you still wont have a locking converter. An E4OD is all you need, if you're looking for a "modern auto trans", in that you get at least one overdrive ratio gear and a locking converter.
They make adapter now to bolt up far superior, more modern auto trans also, so look into that, if you have more money to spend.
There's no "non electrical" auto trans option, past the old C6. Those days have long gone. You have to move beyond your fear of basic electrical, unless you want to drive antique auto's for the rest of your life. Electrical controlled isn't anything to be afraid of. It's superior. That's why things are controlled this way now.
