Toyo AT3 vs Falken AT4W

This will be fun. I know tires is about as divisive as which oil is best but im torn between these 2 tires. 6.2 with 3.73 gears. Put on about 4-5k miles a year a third of that towing 9k trailer. Generally dry climate but often winter is wet and sometimes snow. Live on a dirt road and do take my truck into the fields occasionally and around the dairy. Price wise is negligible about $60 more total for the Toyos over the Falkens. Weight for my tires is 52lbs for Toyo and 60lbs for Falken. Tires on the truck are 57.6lbs so not a big jump in weight if going to the Falkens. To me weight means heavier duty but not sure if its necessary.

I have the Falken Wildpeak AT3W and will get the AT4W when the time comes. I haul a 9k TT about 10 times a year to our favorite spots and to the boat ramp triple that with our 19' Rinker. I live in Kansas, we just got 6" of snow and it drove like there wasn't any at all. I'm 53 and these are the best tires (wear, traction and looks) that I have ever owned. Had them on a RWD 17 F150 before this truck and thats what sold me on them. Engage the e-locker and go, not easy in an aluminum body RWD F150, but they just flat out work.

Surprise, surprise... another vote for the Falken's... I replaced the OE GY Wranglers on my truck with the Wildpeak AT4's in a larger size (up from 275 to 295's) and I have been very happy with them. The traction has been excellent on dry and wet roads, and they even did very well on some snow and ice that we had. They are not loud at all and they are wearing great under the 6.7 and towing our 6k lb camper. Bonus, they look great too! I have been very happy with them and am confident enough with them to recommend them to anyone that isn't dead set on either a road tire or a dedicated MT. I am coming up on 40k miles on the set I have, but it will still be a while before I have to look at getting my next set!

I have a ~35k miles on my "Made in USA" Toyo tires and my next set will most likey be Toyo's. The Falken's for my 20" tires are "Made in china"

I think they are stamped made in Thailand.
I'll have to go out and look at mine.

I'm 45,000 miles into my set of Falken AT/4 They are wearing well. I think I have 6/32s left. So they will definitly hit 50,000 miles, Maybe 55K. I tow a 13,000 lbs GN Horse trailer about 30% of my mileage. and I also tow a dump trailer, flatbed for hauling hay and SxS . My tires are starting howl a little on the hiway now that the tread is getting worn down. They were pretty quiet for most of their life. They are 3 Peak winter rated, But I think the Mickey Thompson Baja AT's I had just before these are a better tire. Especially in the snow.

I bought the Falken AT/4 on sale, They were $1 over invoice at the Ford dealer as an incentive to get customers in, So they cost $1203 for the set of four tires. (Plus tax and mounting) Which was $600 cheaper than buying another set of Mickey Thompson at that time. So I thought I'd give them a try. If they are sale again this summer as I replace tires, I'd buy them again, But not if they are the same price as the Mickey Thompson Baja AT.

Yeah, the Mickey Thompson's were my second choice if I couldn't have gotten the Wildpeaks. I'm glad I was able to get the WP's though because the MT's were quite a bit more $$ than the WP's at that time. The MT's do have a lower 50k vs WP's 60k mile warranty, and they are even a few pounds heavier than the WP's (which people already say is heavy). Either way, the MT"s are a nice tire with great reviews, and they are made in the US and they are also 3PMSF rated... they look really good too!

Understood, but the phone or laptop you are using to reply to this thread aren't made in USA. Im all for USA made, but I tried the Toyo AT3 on my F150 after wearing out my first ever set of Falkens and they wandered and were louder than The Falkens. Called discount tire after giving them a 400 mile trial and switched back to the Falkens.

FWIW, I'm at 35k on this set and slightly over half tread, so 60k won't be a problem.

According to Tire Rack.com in a 295/70/18 the Falkens are Made in China and weigh 7 lbs more than the Toyos. Some Falkens are made in Thailand depending on what size you get. The Chinese are probably making them in Thailand.

Yeah, I can’t buy a Made in the USA iPhone but I can still buy tires made in the USA thank goodness.

The used Wrangler I bought has an older set of Falken Wild Peak AT01s 35x12.5R15 made in Thailand. They are OK on pavement but off pavement they suck and the tread pattern and profile look like crap.

I would never buy any Falken tire, I don’t care how cheap they sell them for.

I bought a new set of Toyo AT3 for my Tacoma last October. Had the AT2 Toyos before, which were good tires, but these AT3 are even better. It was like driving a new truck, quiet and very smooth. Tractionwise, I have only driven them in rainy conditions, which they do great. I need to get new tires for my F350 this year and I am seriously considering getting the Toyo AT3 tires. I have always run Toyos on all my trucks with good results. Interestingly, the AT3 tires I bought are made at the newish Toyo factory in Serbia of all places. The AT2 Toyos I had on previously were made in Japan.

Depends on the size the country of origin will change. My stock size tires are made in Thailand, but other sizes are Chinese in origin.

Thailand produces more rubber per capita than any other country in the world, China is a huge customer of them but Thailand has been producing rubber since China was getting carved up like a Turkey by the western powers.

I have just under two years and about 40k miles on my wildpeaks. Thus far they have been great, very quiet given the thread pattern, great in the slush and very good in the light powdery snow we just got. So far I am happy with them, they are wearing very well. When the time comes I will get another set. The only downsides I have is they are heavy, definitely lost a fraction of an mpg compared to the mastercraps (worthless in anything other than dry pavement and flat out dangerous in the slush) that were on the truck when I bought it but given the rest of the positives it is worth it to me.

I've never run any Falkens so no direct comps but I've run toyo mt, rt, at2, at2 extreme and at3. Obviously I'm a fan of the toyo line of tires. I have never gotten less than 50k out of any set including three sets so far of at3's on my 450's that never get rotated. For my needs toyo has never let me down. If I had one complaint the rt tires sucked off road and were louder on road than the mt's so i would never consider them again.
At3's have held up well on the 450's towing my 20k camper and up to 30k on g/n equipment trailers as well as being my daily driver.

I had a choice between the two tires in the poll and I chose the toyos because of weight and reputation. I mountain bike a lot and that sport really drives home the importance of a tire that doesn't weigh a ton. ~7 extra lbs. of unsprung, rotating mass (the worst kind of weight) x 4 is not something I wanted to run.

The Toyos have been great for towing, highway, and dirt around the farm. No complaints aside from being kinda pricey.

More bales ..

Toyo has that 285/70 size I mentioned in another thread. Like 4lbs heavier than stock, between the 295 and 275 in height and width; little on the bigger side of that.

I have 3 of my trucks with the Toyo AT3's, 2002 F350 7.3 4x DRW, 2000 Excursion, 98 Expy, had the AT2's on my F350 and got almost 42k out of them, which here in the mtns is good. For all around tires they are great, can't speak to the Falkens but have friends that love them as much as I the Toyo's so you can't go wrong with either one! In the snow/ice mix here the Toyo's excel, even wet grass in my dually, they do ok in light mud scrum, but obviously aren't going to perform like an MT.
