73 to 76 Auto and Brake pedal assy

ok guys and gals, long story here........

Shoot me some photos of the brake pedals and how they look. I bought this and am currently fixing, before and after photos below. Lets see how

smart you all are.....

I am trying to figure out how it should be. Is there a bumper stop or does it use the brake light switch?

Does anyone have issues with the pedal return being to slow? The drawing does not show a spring from the factory.

Every once in a while a new thread gets pushed down the line by other new threads, before it gets caught and some advice gets dropped in. So my 1st question why the pedal assembly change? What was wrong with the old one? Reason I ask is I have read on here, there are a TON of different pedal assemblies. And what seems like a simple "just grab a different pedal and use it", is not that simple.

Was the truck a standard and it got changed to an auto? Did you add power brakes? Anyway, slow pedal return can be a power brake booster issue. Or the way the linkage for the pedal (like a Z bar) behind the booster and there are some pins that can get froze. And that cause a slow or stiff pedal return.

I have a 76 2wd auto parts truck and can get you a pic tomorrow.

The PO had a bad set up, the "one size fits all" that most chevys use was bolted to the OEM bracket in the engine bay. This moved the pedal away from the driver by a few inches. Additionally there was a disc/drum proportional valve on it. They did not feel right and were 60% at best.

This is my before picture, note the brake light switch. Maxxed out and still not long enough to activate the switch so he had installed 2 little magnets in between the bracket and the switch.

I installed a booster M/C kit that was designed for the F100 with correct booster and PV.

Well sorry no pic but I looked at my 76 parts truck. The bracket that attaches to the brake pedal and the MS and booster are already gone. So no help there, but the brake switch is only threaded out about 1/2 as much as yours is.

That said, besides your pics, include as much info on your truck as possible. On mine (78 f250 4x4) the bump stop IS the brake light switch. I just looked at it today.

Yes that was "elderly gentleman" was the infamous Number Dummy, he has/had ZERO "Netiquette" or internet etiquette. X2 the bump of the mount bracket is the part that the brake pedal brake light switch acctuates on.

With that being the flat plate style pushrod in from the master, I appears that you have the same linkage style pushrod I have on my '75. My pedal would not return on its own. I replaced the master and the booster, with no change. Went back in and looked, the pivot is about 1/2" ID with a 5/16" bolt. Mine was missing the little plastic sleeve. I made a new on the lathe and it seemed to solve my return issue.

My pedal was modified by the PO. I made some small tweaks to get it right, replaced the plastic bushings but it is still sloppy. I have a shoulder bolt in it now that needs some more work.
