Shocks
Curious to know what folks here think about replacement shocks on these. I think mine are original. Wondering what to replace them with that's is close to original spec or maybe a bit sturdier. Truck will be used to tow/haul. We live on a farm accessible only by dirt roads. 4x2. Long bed, 302. Daily driven plus farm use carrying feed, hay, and pulling smaller trailers less than 5000 pounds...but mostly unloaded driving. Thinking along the lines of Gabriel Ultras, but just starting to research options.

Shocks do no support the weight of the vehicle. That is the job of the springs. I have used Motorcraft or KYB stock replacement shocks. If you use “sturdier”/ off road shocks it makes the ride even more rough than it already is.

Ha! You answered my next question before I asked it. Much appreciated. I'd try to stick with stock-grade springs per what's on the sticker on the door jamb or maybe a marginal bump up (I like a firmer feel to the truck and might put on a grill guard and a heavier rear bumper since the original is somewhat mangled.)
