Hey last night i found out the accelertor rod that goes through the fire wall had a broken bracket on my 55 f-100. I was told its gunna be hard to find another original one so i was told to check with lokar on a universal cable and throttle pedal assembly. What all do i need to have to convert from the stock linkage over to cable. I need the pedal assembly too. Does anybody have any pics or websites for this kit? Does any other companys make a better throttle pedal kit? Thanks
You can buy the pedal through floorboard linkage new from Mid Fifty (1-800-252-1956). I am sure you can get it from other suppliers also. I used this plus the Lokar cable on my 56. You can order the cable direct from Lokar. Lokar has a web site
I have the mid 50's catolog for 2003. I found the through floor linkage, but how do you make a cable work on that, its made for stock solid linkage? And also the lokar cable you used, was it the universal one? Tell me everything you had to use to convert over to cable throttle
I have a 351W with a Edelbrock performer manifold and a 600cfm carb, not sure what you have so I'm only telling you what I did not what you should do.
Yes I used the universal cable (maybe a foot at the most). I set carb/manifold end up like the instructions said then the cleves attaches to to linkage at the same spot the rod did then just put there little pin through and attach the clips to both sides (that is the hardest part). I didn't use the black shielding.
Hope this helps. You know if you just replace the linkage why would you need to use the lokar cable?
One other thing I did cut the arm on the linkage and move it inboard a bit ( I think because I have so much time to screw around) I wanted it to line up with the carb better ( my engine is not on center).
I want the cable cuz i was told its smoother than linkage. Right now i have a stock 2 barrel intake on there(292 y block) but i have a four barrel intake on order and a 500cfm edelbrock performer on order and im not sure if the stock linkage will still work on that set up. Will it or should i go ahead and get the cable to save headache?
p.s. does edelbrock make a single four barrel manifold for 292 y block?

Ok. I also have a 1954 Mercury car with a Y-block. When I had the original carb the linkage worked fine. Changed to three carbs (I think that was a big mistake) had to refine the linkage a bit.
I think there is only one person that makes a aluminum manifold for a Y-Block not sure who. I think the only production cast iron 4 barrel manifold that you can use is ones manufactured after 1956.
1954-1956 used a 4 barrel carb commonly call a "tea pot" it's base is to small for a modern carb (500 cfm is a good one)
You need to go on the Y-Blocks forever site you can get more good info from there. The four barrel is the way to go don't let anybody talk you into three carbs they are a real pain in the well you know where.
Ya i found them, a company called blue thunder makes the aluminum dual plane intake for y blocks. What size Duration of cam you think would be a good match for that dual plane intake, edelbrock 500cfm carb and dual 2.5" exhaust? My motor sounds like its got a very mild cam in it right now but im not sure if the motor will be running to its full potential once i get my carb and intake on. I want a cam that sounds pretty lopey at idel but not hesitate on me if you accidently lug it on take off. Any opinions apprecited
You need to ask this on this web site: members.aol.com/yblock/yblock.htm open chat then open the Yblock Discussion Forum2.
I really think you have a stock cam. Yblocks just sound good even better with glass packs.
Some where along the line you will have to find out what size and year your engine is. If it has a 13 tooth gear on the distributor you can't get a new cam so I have been lead to believe anyway ask your Yblock questions there they seem to have most of the answers.
