Several times I have posted about LMC's expensive shipping costs. Because of that I thought it only fair that when I found a really good company I should post about that as well.
It all started when I ordered from LMC a replacement driver's side door window for my 75 standard cab. Three days passed before they even got it in the mail. When it finally arrived it was thinner than oem glass. That meant it would rattle in my new window seals. LMC, when I called them, had no idea! Rather than return it, and wait for it to get there, then wait a third time for the new questionable glass to come again, I chose to eat the cost.
During my search for a fender, I found AMD (auto metal direct) and noted the long description for the items they were selling. LMC has zero description. In the AMD catalogue (online) I saw that they sell glass. In the long description they mentioned that it was the same thickness as oem glass. I ordered. And when the package sat in a FedEx facility for three days, I called AMD and they got on the horn to FedEx and got the ball rolling again. It was good to feel that AMD was trying to help. I didn't feel that disconnect that I had gotten from LMC.
BTW, the glass was oem thickness.
Glad you found someone that you are happy with.
I have had zero issues with LMC and I have bought a lot of stuff from them.
I ordered the wrong fan shroud and had to return it.
Local postage was $125+ due to its size.
LMC sent me a return label and return shipping cost me like $25.
The only place I have ever really had any issues with is eBay, I'm arguing with a seller right now.
Ebay has turned into a cesspool, and that’s saying something considering how mediocre of an experience it was from the beginning. Trust no one on that site.
AMD is awesome. I got my windshield from them and it was perfect. No one else at the time had glass that didn’t have that stupid green or grey stripe at the top. I got what I needed at a great price and the shipping was more than fair.
The difference seems to be that some vendors are actually just drop shipping stuff from various other sources. I bought a tailgate from LMC and it arrived in Dennis Carpenter packaging and it was good. I ordered headlight retaining rims from LMC and they were pretty crappy looking and didn't fit properly. AMD appears to be much more hands on making all or most of the stuff they sell. That makes a difference I think. Dennis Carpenter is a mix of these two business models and they label products accordingly. There are two DC tailgates on offer. One is good and expensive and the other is not so good and not so expensive. The larger problem for us is that the market value of our trucks is insufficient to cover the costs of quality restoration (parts, sweat equity, expertise, etc.). Enjoy the process, not so much the ROI.
I guess I need to clarify something. I'm not saying that LMC customer service is not good. What I'm saying is that they don't know what they are selling. Take my window for example. They sell the window bottom channel. They sell the all the seals and slides, and yet they don't even make sure that the windows they are selling with fit those products.
Btw, I ordered a grill from Summit Racing and it came in AMD packaging.
