Just got the dreaded call from the Ford dealer, and they quoted me 10200 for 4 oil leaks, two in the upper and two in the lower. Does anyone have any info on this pricing? I noticed the leak several days ago when greesing U joint and was hoping it was going to be <5000. Thanks for any help!
Me would do an oil Gil cap pressure test …there are YouTube videos on that…depending on out come..might be able to reduce the leak to a deep by replacing the vivid it is clogged
The 2017-2019 trucks are notorious for Upper Oil Pan leak. Usually caused by plugged CCV creating pressure inside the engine.
Dealer did my 2017 under the 100,000 miles/5 year warranty Which you are past. But it would have cost about $3500 in 2020 dollars.
If you replace the seals on the oil pan, make sure to swap out your CCV for a 23+ version while you are at it, or you will have the oil pan leak again.
Im dealing with the same. I also have a 17 with right at 100,000m. I had an oil leak fixed a few yrs ago under warranty. But now im out and its leaking again but much worse. I did recently change out my ccv box to the new style and I feel like it has helped. Im not seeing oil dripping on the ground anymore.. yet.
I seen a YouTube video of a guy testing all the different ccv boxes that Ford used. Of course the one on my truck caused the most pressure out of all of them.
Ive been wanting to have the pan fixed but havent gotten a quote yet. 10,000 seems incredibly high. Ive also seen that the older 6.7 had an O ring on the oil pan and the middle/newer years did away with the O ring and just used silicone which is part of the problem. I see that it is popular that people are purchasing an older oil pan that takes an O ring and replacing their pan when doing the repair to help prevent it from happening again.
That sounds like a lot to me. On other engines that I've had a oil leak where it's just more of a seep and not blowing. I've cleaned all of the old oil from around the seep and ran a bead of high temp RTV gasket sealer, let have a change to cure, and drive it. It might be worth a try before spending big money. If it's around a valve cover or oil pan make sure none of the bolts are loose. If it's a seal you may be out of luck. It sounds funny but I have also seen a oil leak stop just by using a different brand of oil.
my 2019 went in for a routine reprogram a few years ago.
the shop in PA had the truck for two days.
in those two days they did the pcm reprogram, steering damper, tail gate unattended, and upper oil pan oil leak.
dont know how they got all that done in two days if the upper oil pan oil leak fix is a body lift repair....the repair involves separating the upper pan from the block...cleaning the old sealant. Using a surface prep..applying the new sealant..reassemble. there must be a upper pan fix short cut. keep in mind..there is no external sealant evident.
in other words...ford is going to bill you for a body lift per the hours manual and then fix it not doing a body lift.
dont know if you can do a body lift prep and just lift the body a few inches and do an engine lift prep and just lift the engine trans assembly a few inches.
what ever the short cut was..I sure would like to know.
and kids...if you ever do this upper pan leak fix your self...the older pans have an oring seal vs the later pans which uses a sealant so look into using the older style pan.
