My truck has developed an oil leak lately. I looked at it today and it's coming down the driver side. The back part of the valley does have a little oil, but the oil galley plug on the back of the head is dry. It looks like the back of the valve cover and CCV is also somewhat dry. I think it may be coming from the lower pedestal o-rings. I used DeiselOrings on the uppers and lowers, but I did use an aftermarket delete pedestal when I did alot of work about a year and a half ago.
The oil is running down the back of the block and coming down on the up pipe at the manifold connection and oil filter area. I would assume if the bottom and/or top pedestal o-rings were leaking it would go down into the valley and out the drain hole in the back of the block on the passenger side. What am I missing?
Just a follow up as I think I've got it figured out and wanted to share it as so many don't...even sent a PM to one who had the same issue with no response and he's active. The driver side HPO line into the head had a bad o-ring...these are aftermarket Crude Diesel hoses. It had nothing to do with the product but rather an operator problem. I'm guessing I tightened it too tight when I installed them 2 years ago. It was a leak that was getting progressively worse. I couldn't see the leak and it really didn't leak at idle. It was also kind of hard to see given the oil was so clean. What was happening is the oil would leak out of the o-ring at the fitting into the head and run along where the intake plenum bolts onto the head to the back of the engine and down behind the up-pipe. I drove it some today and it appears to have at least slowed down, but that's probably the residue left. So tomorrow I plan on power washing the bottom side, then driving it some more and see where we are...
Somehow I missed this thread. I had the same thing happen to me. I think mine was on the oil crossover line though, can't recall. It ran just along the top of the intake plenum and off the back as you mentioned.
Hopefully you solved your issue. I currently have a leak or leaks I will have to track down this summer

I feel your pain, there's another leak on the lower front coming out the harmonic balancer area which has been there forever. I'll be looking into it this spring/summer...

Let me know what you find, because I think i recently developed the same leak, lol. Sad thing is my engine was rebuilt about 25k miles ago. I think the builder did a shotty job.
I don't know if it's the front cover, oil pan, HB seal (if that's a thing), etc. My leak isn't bad but enough to drive me crazy.
I'll probably wash the engine the best I can and put some UV dye in and see how it goes. I feel that I have a few minor leaks.
