From my understanding Ford has performed some upgrades to the 2026 10R140, along with changing the service requirements.
Again, from my understanding based on information out there, the new service requirements will require you to spend a bit more at the dealership/maintenance bay, but it should eliminate a lot of the issues people were saying they were facing.

Since you are keeping your truck a long time, you need to make sure that they are following the correct (revised) work order.

Drive in tow-haul in heat, at elevation, etc., even when not towing/hauling.

A lot of the issues seemed to be from mapping that would try to get the very best MPG out there, as well as components that were not quite up to the task. Between the changes over the years (including 2026), and the mapping changes, things should be improved. That said, you will need to have preventative maintenance performed if you want to keep the transmission happy.

Ford should rethink offering a 6 speed manual trans, and manual xfer case. At least on the gas trucks.
I have had several 10 speed fords
the only one that had an issue is 2 months after I bought the 24. It took a ****
It was just outside a tsb thung for being assembled with wring wave bearing.. thats a whole different discussion
but ford put in a brand new one
Now with 7800miles no issues at all with the truck

The upgrades I have heard about (not confirmed mind you, just heard of) are:
  • Valve Body & Pump: Re-calibrated valve bodies and pumps increase line pressure (up to 60 PSI) and improve oil flow to critical clutch packs (like the F and B clutches) for faster, cooler engagement.
  • Clutch Packs: Upgraded Raybestos GPZ frictions and increased clutch counts (e.g., 5 to 6-clutch stack) handle more torque and reduce heat.
  • Drums: Upgraded CDF (C, D, F) drums, often anodized or reinforced, address bushing movement and provide better support.
  • Torque Converter: Billet multi-disc converters manage higher horsepower and torque.
  • Cooling & Pan: Deep aluminum pans (PPE, Mag-Hytec) reduce fluid temperatures, extending fluid life and transmission durability.
  • Internal Hardening: Hardened input, output, and intermediate shafts add strength for high-power builds.
(I copied and pasted from my google search, but these match the info I heard about a few weeks ago)

That said, the preventative maintenance changes are probably going to be what really helps out, but they are going to cost a bit more. From my understanding, transmission maintenance will be a LOT more frequent, not just a 150k mile service, but I've heard every 30-60k with a full flush and map reset along with doing a drive cycle..

I don’t believe virtually any of those upgrades actually occurred. Ford made a change to the drum material to increase hardness, that occurred maybe in 2024? I don’t think anything else was actually confirmed.

Some of these are aftermarket items. So i dont think this is an actual list of improvements.

Aftermarket "finned" transmission pans have zero effect on temperatures. If you need to cool things down, a legit heat exchanger (or larger one) is your answer.
