Engine swap

I have a f100 that had a FE. It needs a new engine and I have a guy with both a FE but also an Inline 300. Depending on the condition of the FE I might want to put the 300 in instead. I was wondering what all would have to change to accommodate the 300

Bell housing, exhaust, possibly cooling, mounts--l think it's the same perches but they have to be moved. Carb linkage and possibly fuel lines in engine compartment.

All FE motors are not created equal. Check those engines carefully.

Did your f100 have a manual or automatic tranny?

manuel. I’m also considering a 361 FT. It only has 18000 miles on it and runs good. I don’t know what I would have to do to it though

Forget the 361FT. Mounting is different and there are several differences between it and the FE that will cause issues with a swap.

The easiest is to go with the FE. The 300 is a great engine, but the amount of parts needed for the swap is a lot unless you can find a donor truck. Just my two cents. Good luck either way you go. Also stay away from the FT as it is totally different!

I think I have to go with the FT. From what I can find, I’ll have everything I need on the parts truck and it will be cheaper that way

You should look at this very carefully. The FT engine shares a few common parts, but they are few. The FT has a different style crank with very different sizes. You will need the trans, bell housing, mounts, exhaust manifolds. You will need to retain the FT dizzy as well which is a not great. I still think going with the FE is your best bet!

I have a whole doner truck to pull from. I think I would be able to do it with the FT a lot cheaper. You can get a adapter bushing for the FE dizzy

Ok, but remember that the FT engine mounts off the front cover and rear bell housing. Meaning you will need to add those cross members from the donor truck.

Balance. Did you read about balance?

Your FE front cover won't fit either.

Your front engine accessory drive must be FE or FT, no mixing.

You're headed to the scrap yard with this......
