I was under the impression it is a 1988 300-6 truck. I didn't realize they ran the E4OD behind them. Transmission type really only matters to people who like to consider everything in a build.
i don't know. I would not start this swap with a budget that low. Can it be done? Maybe, but what happens when you do have an issue? Front cover/coolant pump seized? Wouldn't you want to reseal the engine? Thermostat? Injectors?
Good luck, but I would take a good look at this mine field before I take the first step.
I'm aware I'll likely end up overspending, really just want advice for parts with everyones understanding it is a low budget build. And of course all of that will be gone through, how could I swap a cam in and not reseal the engine...
I went from driving 351W F150s with E4ODs and 3.55 gears in them to driving a 351W F250 with the ZF5 and 4.10 gears. You might find yourself content with swapping out gearing until you decide that you want to put several thousand dollars into a new engine build.
I too went from a 3.55 to a 4.10. I tow a lot and I dislike the slightly higher RPM, but my truck does maintain a higher speed up passes. I would love to get a 6R80.
Do yourself a favor and look at all the threads about the seized coolant pump/front cover bolts. There are plenty out there. Highly unlikely that you will be the only one without an issue AND on a budget. Usually when I am on a budget, everything fails and every step forward includes two steps back. On benefit is that the engine would be out.
H.O. are .444 lift, around 115.5LSA. I believe 206/206 duration
351W roller is around .400 lift, about 197/204? Unsure LSA. WAY better than the flat tappet crap cams. I think 302 roller used the same, probably wrong, yet both received a far better unit when went roller.
Apparently 87/88 speed density H.O. cams were a hair spicier. '88 in my 302 as had available on the shelf.
Melling lists specs for stock replacements if you want to look them up
So I picked up the engine a couple days ago, casting number was f4te-6615-aa. But popped the lower plenum off and there are no keepers in the valley, could I have a roller block with a flat tappet cam?
