Headlight Upgrade
Headlight Upgrade
What's a good upgrade for my 2019. I've already swapped out the factory bulbs for Sylvania Super Stars or something like that can't remember exactly what they are called but I'm suffering from everyone's super effn bright LEDs beating up my eyeballs. Looking for plug n play...thanks.
I put some Diode Dynamics LED replacements in mine. These are made to replicate the pattern of halogen bulbs, for use in your OEM headlight assembly. They made a massive difference compared to the halogen bulbs I had before. You will need to make sure that your headlights are properly adjusted when you put them in, as most F150 headlights aren't aimed properly, even from the factory. There are cheaper bulbs out there, but none that have a lifetime warranty, and that don't require you to adjust the bulb to the base in some way in order to fine tune for the best result. Taking them in and out to make adjustments just isn't worth the hassle to save a few bucks.
And yeah, they do make a big difference. It's not that they are super bright, (and they are brighter) it's that they are a much more clean, white light. A lot of those headlights that dazzle the eyes so bad are cheap universal bulbs, or improperly adjusted headlights on lifted truck and SUVs. Just putting a bigger set of tires on can throw off the adjustment.
Once you drive at night with LEDs, you will be sold. If you live in snow country, change your fog light s amber to help with the white light reflecting off of white snow.

Cool thanks! I'll look into those. I knowhatchyamean about headlights not being adjusted right from the factory....drivers side on mine was way higher than the pass.side I had to Google how to adjust and it was super easy. I think the fog lamps are good for me. We get fog but not frequently plus the fact I'm retired so I can pick n choose on whether or not I drive anywhere. I use them mostly on the dark windy back roads out here in the rural parts of Western Washington. They work great...it's also a small way to combat those super bright LEDs that seem to be on everyone's big truck or Subaru Crosstrek. The other pet peeve of mine is people driving around with their high beams on. I guess those folks don't know what that blue light on their instrument panel means. SMH

Idk your budget, I would recommend the morimoto xb's. Originally did the alpha Rex's projectors (the step below the novas) and was not happy with them so upgraded to the xbs. I have been very Happy with the xb's.
I've looked at the Morimotos...kinda pricey. Thanks for the recommendation. Looking for plug play that won't kill my bank account...or upset the Minister of sex n finance. Haha 😂

When I bought my truck new, the headlights were absolutely awful. I found that they were adjusted all wrong. After tweaking the adjustment, they were much better. After 10 years, and either my factory bulbs getting dimmer, or my eyes getting worse, I started thinking about LEDs after driving my wife's Navigator, then really decided after I bought a Wrangler with LED headlights. I used to hate driving my truck at night on rural roads, now I find it much more confidence inspiring, and less stressful.
I did much the same as @JKBrad . Got LED replacements through Headlight Revolution. The OEM halogens were yellowish and had a pattern that was all fuzzy. The LEDs are made to replicate the filament in the OEM halogens, but are brighter, whiter, and with a sharp, clean cut-off line. Much nicer when I'm out on our country mountain roads.
I replaced the OEM fog lamps with a set made by Morimoto. Similar to the headlights in white light output, but the light comes out at knee level and spreads out all around. I didn't like the white for fog lamps, so I sprayed the lenses with an amber tint.

UPDATE: I replaced my low beams with Sylvania LEDs. Huge difference! Got to test them on a 6hr drive on 2 lane twisty back roads. So glad I changed them out. I felt very comfortable driving in the dark. Even oncoming headlights didn't bother me as much.
Do the fogs, now that you've done the low beams. You'll be amazed at the visibility to the sides, and directly in front of the truck. If you do the high beams too, the difference on dark roads is incredible.
Thanks, yes I plan to replace the fog lights too with LED. The difference in replacing the low beams was incredible!
I used the bulbs I linked to above. But I helped a friend put Sylvanias in his truck, and the results were just as good. Plus, you can find the Sylvanias at you local parts store. Sylvania also makes their bulbs spec'd as direct replacements for the corresponding Halogen bulb, which makes for a proper beam pattern from the light housing.
I got a deal on the Alpharex Novas and they are fantastic. Not only is the beam pattern flat and wide with a sharp cutoff but they look cool as hell too. I tried a couple drop in LED’s but with these small reflectors in the 17-20 trucks, they just didn’t put out much light. I have drop in LEDs in my daily driver flex with much larger reflectors and they work great.
