Looking to see if anyone else seems to have had an issue with the trans filter coming loose and going to the bottom of the pan. Are there some filters that are known for doing this, I am not sure what brand I had in the trans it was installed when the transmission was rebuilt a couple years ago. I did put one from Oriellys in it yesterday. I know lots of times the OEM parts are better, but I wanted to get my truck back up and going and not wait on a motorcraft filter. Hopefully this one stays in place ATF is way to expensive.
If you have a 4x4 pan and a 4x2 filter, it will fall off. Make sure your filter is the correct one for the pan you have.
Yes, truck is 4x4 and has 4x4 pan. The filter I got has the longer pickup on the bottom I looked at both styles at the parts store to make sure I got the right one. The filter that came loose matched the one I installed. I hope it was just one of those things that happens sometime.

how many magnets and what size do you have in your pan? Pic of your setup?
the proper filter will have little feet to hold itself off the pan bottom
I've only worked on my E4OD, but the parts I use snap in tight. Taking out the filter always leaves the seal in the pump. Make certain you don't have two seals up there.

I had to remove the old seal out of the hole to the pump. The new filter took some effort to get it to snap in, not sure why the old one came loose. But I didn't install it I pulled the trans and to it to have it rebuilt and reinstalled after they rebuilt it. That was two years ago. My pan in already back on and trans works fine now so know way for a picture. The pan had one round magnet in it.
