I am interested in adding power steering to my 292 merc motor. Please advise me of any companies that may offer a bracket kit to add power steering and an alternator.
I own a 63 f350 dump truck, a 65 f250 4x4, and a 78 f350 4x4.
I am using the 78 for donor axles, the 65 for the divorced t case and drive shafts, with the hopes of converting my dump truck into a dana 60 with discs and power steering.
I have recently installed power steering on a 64 pickup with the 292 engine. I had the same trouble with the Power Steering Pump mount brackets. Pumps and steering components were available from several sources but no one could sell me the mounts on the engine. I finally found one from Gearheads Cruiser Products in North Dakota. Be warned, I had to do some modifications to get it to line up with the pulleys. Yours may not be a problem. Hope it helps.

thanks for the advice. do you have a number or contact info on this company in north dakota. What type of steering pump does the brackets call for? What kind of steering box were you using in your project? I am trying to fit a dana 60 front axle from a78 f350 for a 4x4 conversion. anymore info would certainly help me with this project. thanks again.
Sorry I didn't provide a number for Gearheads. I looked for an hour that night and didn't find it. Tonight it took about 5 minutes. Gearheads Curiser Products (701) 223-2269. Your project sounds quite different from mine so I doubt I can help you much other than to say I purchased my steering componets from Classic Performance Products. ((800) 522-5004) The unit I bought
is called a power assist steering kit and uses the factory column. It comes with tie rod drag link.... Well just give them a call if your interested they can send a catalogue. This setup does not require a different steering box.
As for the steering pump Gearheads sold me that also. I can't remember the name of the manufacturer but it's common because the guys at the local parts store recognized it when they saw it. I had to get them to make me a hose and get the belts for it.
It is correct that the bracket bolts onto the water pump on the 292.
I had a few problems with the CPP unit mainly with left turn clearance as the wheel would rub the power steering lines but I get the impression you only need the pump and brackets so I won't bore you with those details. I'll check back in a few days when I get time so let me know how the project went. If I can help anymore I'll be glad to.
thanks for taking the time to find me the phone numbers. I am going to contact them next week. My project is some time away from completion. I bought a ps bracket off ebay and am waiting to get that in the mail. thanks 64builder!
