My sbf is tired and I got a 5.3L with a truck norris cam im going to throw in and I found a ZF5 adapter plate to use behind it (gotta keep something ford). My question is im going to run a MSD 6014 will the tach wire out of that work with the factory guage in my 82 f150 or will I need the tach adapter. Ive found mixed some saying you do and some saying you dont need the tach adapter and was wondering if anybody knows about this swap or is more knowledgeable about the factory tach in my truck.
Thanks

The factory tach gets hooked to the NEG side of the coil from the factory so I cant tell you how it should get hooked to the MSD 6014 box?
Been a L O N G time since I installed a MSD in my drag car but I was using everything MSD and Auto Meter in the car.
I would say as long as the tach hook up get the signal from the coil NEG you should be good.

At low rpms the msd(multiple spark discharge) box may fire the coil several times in succession, and that may make the tach not read correctly. I agree, call them. The Ford tach does work on the negative side of the coil, so if their special wire is for that type of tach, it should work.
