I’m doing a full brake job on my 1990 f350. It has the sterling 10.25 so it has a pin that runs through the parking brake arm, I’ve attached a picture. It’s an Ontario, Canada truck so the nut on the backing plate has been absolutely destroyed. I was just going to cut it but when I went online to make sure I could buy a new one I’ve found it’s been discontinued and the only one I could find says it’s for the 12x3” drums and not the larger ones for the DRW. Does anyone know what I could use to replace this? Maybe a normal bolt and some thread locker? I don’t know how important the serrations are and for a weekend truck it might be good enough. Junkyards are out of the question as they’ll be in a similar state if they’re there at all, most of these trucks have rotted away up here.
The serrations are important because you will not be able to tighten the lock nut without those serrations grabbing
Junkyard is the ONLY source now days (that I know of)
I assume you asked Autozone et al. about the self adjuster cable and pin?
You used to be able to buy the assembly with the cable and spring, washer etc
That part is inside the backing plate, and you should be able to find a good one even in the rust belt
I checked around, no trucks around the junk yards that hadn’t been picked over. So I was left with no choice but to try and jank it. After I tore it apart I realized the bolt just held the parking brake arm in place so I went and got grade 8 1/4” bolts witch fit perfectly and the smooth shank on the bolt fit tightly in the little sleeve bit. All seems well so far so I’ll see how it holds up.
Good to know a bolt will fit, shouldn’t be a problem accessing it. The nut is external on the backing plate and rusts away.
OP, not much left in junkyards around here either. Another option is looking around on car-part.com , find what you’re looking for down south and have it shipped.
