Need Help! Engine Supports

Need help!!!

Okay. This is driving me insane. I have engine supports (towers) that I am trying to use to mount a 300 inline into a 1979 f250 4wd. The mounts that were in the truck when I got it bolted up great, but I was told they were for a 351/400 and when I measured the distance from where they would bolt to the motor from the transmission they were like 5” too far back.

So after a ridiculous amount of shaky research I was confident that fe mounts (300/360/390) from earlier 70s would work although I was told I may have to redrill one hole. Well after showing some pictures to some “experienced” builders I was told that’s what I have.

Well I did everything but flip the truck on its top and still could not get the mounts to line up to any more than 1 single hole! I was then told that maybe the mounts were different between f150’s and 250’s and that’s what I should look for.

So $300 later I have the new to me f250 mounts in hand only to find out they are EXACTLY the same as the ones I already have.

Could someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’ve got to get past this point. I’m including 3 pictures. The first is a frame pic of the passenger side. The next two pics are the short and long support both held against the passenger side rail.

With as much detail as you can muster (crayon pics are great by me) can someone tell me how these get installed or if I even have the correct mounts for what I want to do. Thanks.

85e150. I appreciate the help. I’ve probably already looked through that post 20 times before. All of the pics and positioning advice only pertains to 2wd.

In regards to the model numbers, none of those are stamped on the pieces so it’s basically determining what you have by how it looks which already has me $300 in the hole.

So IMO before you buy ANY motor mounts/stands/perches. Get some measurements from the person selling them. And make sure they are NOT like the ones you have now. Yes I know NOW I make that suggestion. I had a 6 cly 4spd 4wd parts truck (F150), but the stands are already sold. So sorry that is not really any help. Mabe these pics will, hang in there.

These are for a 460, so just have some more pics.

Well I think what happened is that I measured the holes on the frame and assumed the holes on the engine mounts were not the same as they did not match the frame holes. Unfortunately when I got the mounts with the correct holes they in fact exactly match the holes of the mounts I already had. So I measured holes, just the wrong ones. Rookie mistake.

If you get desperate again, post up pics with approximate measurements of the towers. I’ll crawl under mine when I can to verify, and can give you measurements to another hard point on the frame for placement after verifying dimensions are the same.

Ive got a 78 f250 4x4, that had a 400 originally, but a 429 when I got it. They had some kind of conversion engine mounts that I was able to adapt to an FE with some 3/8” plate. The towers on mine are original as far as I know.

Alignment front to back, side to side, and angle somehow worked out perfectly. Should be identical for the 300 as far as I know (that’s what I had originally planned before the FE).

I can even get you measurements/bolt holes locations on a 79 that had a 6 cyl/4 spd/NP-205 in a 4wd F150. I do not know if it would matter if it was a F250. I have the engine and stands/supports all ready removed. Let me know if that might help ya.
