Im pretty new here not sure if im putting this in the right forum but I have a 1993 f250 with a 460 and im pretty sure the E40D was driving fine parked it next morning it starts shifting super hard and sometimes shifting way too fast at the same time the speedometer and odometer stopped working i looked everywhere and have not been able to locate the VSS fluid was clean and at the correct level but I changed it and replaced the filter just incase I did replace a sensor that was on top of the rear diff since it broke when I was checking the wiring for fraying and no change
What Key On Engine Off (KOEO) fault code did you get that lead you to believe the speed sensor was to blame? The only sensor is on the diff and is for the speedometer and RABS on that truck.
I have not tried to read the codes I didn't really know how and it wasn't affecting anything at the time but ill give it a crack and come back with the codes this afternoon
The 452 code says there is a problem with the vehicle speed signal. That comes from the sensor on the rear axle. I recommend clearing the codes, driving it, and see if they come back.
To clear the codes, start reading codes, and remove the jumper while it is outputting codes.
I don't know why you need codes to tell you that your speedometer has stopped working, since you can see it's not working yourself. Of course the trans wont be able to shift correctly, without it working. Check your fuses. If your dome light is blown, suspect the one for speedo memory.
