I have an 87 F250 with the 7.5 and a 4 speed MT, the firewall is cracked/separated causing clutch issues, which as I have read in multiple threads here is common. I have ordered the bronco graveyard bracket, along with their clutch rod repair kit.
I am just curious if anyone has ever used any sort of auto body adhesive such as Fusor 2098, on the engine side of the firewall to attempt to re-secure the panel that has popped loose. I would use the adhesive in conjunction with the bracket.
At the very least I would like to use some sort of adhesive or autobody caulking?? to fill the gap at the top of the engine side panel where the separation has occurred to prevent moisture etc. from entering the cab.
I thought about welding it but I'm not that confident in my welding abilities.
1. Anyone who has used the bracket have you done something similar or think this is necessary?
Mostly curious about what if any adhesive anyone has used to re-seal the engine side, as is visible in the third photo where you can see the seam there quite a bit of separation and the factory adhesive appears to have failed.
From what I remember about Fusor, it really likes a clean surface and doesn’t like dirt. I can’t remember which flavor of fusor I used last. Maybe the variety you listed is more forgiving? The TA might be more forgiving and should do well
I fixed about a thousand
At the dealer we just used 3M seam sealer
Then the repair plates got riveted to the cowl
Yours is bad enough, I would weld it before installing the plate (regardless of your welding experience)
Then grind down the weld so the plate fits flat against the cowl panel
