Has anyone done this? Currently I do not have any wiper components and was planning on getting this https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/tru...-wiper-motor-k I am a bit confused by this note on the DC site "Note: 1948-50: Had (1) Wiper and dash brackets must be removed." My cab is set up for two wipers so I am not concerned about that, but I do not understand or know what they mean by dash brackets must be removed????? Any insight or photos would be appreciated.
I use the factory electric wiper option, so I don't have pictures or first hand experience to share. Many have gripes with aftermarket solutions such as their conflicts with radios, brackets, defrost ducting and the like....

I saw that PDF as well. Just not sure what they mean by "Lower dash panel to cowl braces" As far as I can remember I have nothing under there. I will be investigating the underside of the dash tomorrow,
48-50 and 51-2 trucks use different wiper linkage assemblies and don't interchange. My guess is that DC's kit fits the 51-2 trucks and to have them work in the earlier cabs, one would need to modify the underdash area as necessary. I'd have to double check for sure, but if you're interested and would prefer an original wiper setup for your 49, I may be able to help.

My understanding was that 48/52 vacuum setups were essentially the same; and the differences are between electric and vacuum wipers. Most aftermarket kits that reuse arms and whatnot assume reuse of vacuum setup components, not the factory electric.
I installed the DV unit in my '59 F-2 in October. It was surprisingly easy. I have the stock dual wiper setup. One of the things I did was make a new metal mounting bracket. The one supplied didn't hold the motor far enough away from the instrument panel. I also insulated the new bracket with double shrink tubing. There was a lot of wires running around it.
I also had the added ingredient of using a set up converter because my truck is still six volt positive ground.
Everything worked great until coming back from Truckstock we got into a rain storm and wind grabbed the wipers and wrenched them over. I pulled over thought I had things fixed but when I tried to use them I blew a fuse and wire started melting I pulled wires wires apart while driving. Pulled over and cut and taped off wires. THe reSt of the trip home was "interesting" ending with a trailering home the 100 miles. Got the truck home and haven't worked on the truck since.
As for the overall installation, again, it was fairly easy. As with any work under the dash, there is little room to work under there.

The wiper units are different for the different year sets. The motors are located differently, above the gauges in the 48-50, in the center on the 51-2. I've never seen an electric motor on the 48-50's. The bracing under the dash was revised with the relocation of the radio from the top of the dash to the bottom. I've never had my head under both at the same time to know exactly what's different, but my understanding is that there's something in the way for the early wipers not to fit in the later cab, or vice-versa, and is the reason for DC's disclaimer.
Interesting... I tried to dig deeper and my 51 catalog shows pretty much everything wiper related applies 48-51, but my 52 catalog starts to break things apart more along 48-50 and 51-52... If winter hadn't made it's presence known, I'd be more inclined to go look in detail at my stash of parts and whatnot...
Just got a chance to get back to this thread this morning. Since my cab was totally bare no braces, wiper setup etc I decided to just order the DC replacement yesterday which was prior to reading all the responses. I appreciate all of the information and the offer from @52 Merc I will respond back once I get the parts installed with info and pics if people would like.
Does anyone have pictures of the electric wiper motor installed in situation showing the brackets in an F3 Five Star they could post?
I’m missing brackets and may need to fab.
Thanks
Are you looking for the stock wiper setup, or aftermarket? If a/m, which one are you using? The stock wiper assembly just screwed to the dash and the shafts retained to the cowl is all that held it in, iirc.
Stock is what I have .
My motor was missing, I bought one from our forum colleague a few years ago on his annual parts search.
I fit the shafts through the cowl and it’s a tight fit. As you mention seems the shafts would be the only thing holding it in.
There are two threaded holes in a bracket on the firewall but they seem irrelevant to this mounting.
I should say the motor I purchased turned out to be 12v I believe.
I converted my truck to 12v and the wiper motor operates fine. I was curious it might be from a later 12 v model and was not fitting properly.
This shows the various wiper setups, including the 48/50 vacuum, 51/52 vacuum, and 51/52 electric.
The 51/52 electric wiper motor assembly is mounted by the pivot assemblies and two screws through the top of the dash into the the two captured nuts in the motor mount (ignore the electric wire harness placement):
