Hi all, I have a late 04 F-350 super duty (6.0) and trying to decide what direction to go. My question is, Should I spend the money to "bullet proof" it or sell it and look for a low mileage newer 6.7 rig?
Background: I bought the truck new, It currently has 110,000 miles on it. It's 98% stock, I did the blue spring mod. I had the FICM and turbo replaced as they went out around 2012, I can't remember the mileage. I would like to say I have kept up with the maintenance but after spending days reading forums, I'm not sure I did what others recommend. I do change the oil regularly. I haven't had any other issues with the truck, shy of replacing the radiator and breaks. I plan to get a CTS3 to monitor the engine, which is a second question. Is this a good unit to get? We have recently purchased a smaller camper and are planning a month's long trip this coming summer. I wish I could say I am confident the truck will be good, but I am not. Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Would not hurt to freshen a few things up 21 year old HPO seals inject seals considering you travel plans vehicle age etc
and might be the cheapest option to just do a few things vs new
injectors can last 300k or more when maintained correctly
any lift kits over size tires etc??
Newer vehicle features are also nice
After you get a gauges on it you can make more informed decisions but it likely needs seals minimum just to be safe and avoid down time

Thanks for the ideas, and I run stock size tires. As for the suspension, I did add air bags for when I was towing a 5th wheel, but that's all.
I have the CTS3 and really like it. It does everything I need as far as on the road monitoring. The EGT add on is not too bad as far as expense, but any add ons beyond that are really stupid expensive. I added a Glowshift pod for fuel pressure. Diagnostics are done by FORScan, but the edge is a nice monitor/ tune. I pretty much always run the economy or tow tune. If you can delete the EGR cooler, do it. Do a complete coolant flush and ELC coolant upgrade. I wouldn’t touch the injectors unless there was a problem, but that’s just me. Be prepared to do an oil cooler at some point.
Again, thanks for the help. I'm a neophyte at this and have a list of acronyms next to the computer and look them up and write them down as I go. Not sure I will ever be able to fluidly talk about this stuff, but I'm learning.
Considering the current issues with quality parts availability, I'm in the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp. 110000 is pretty low mileage for a well maintained & not abused 6.0. CTS3 is a great monitor; tons of capability. I've had them on several of my past rigs. I'd want to watch ECT, EOT, fuel pressure, and EGT at a minimum. Drive it, keep an eye on vitals, & enjoy the extra $$$ in your pocket not getting burned on a pickup payment
