I’m thinking of buying this 67 f100 with a 390. It has a fmx automatic in it. I really wanted a stick. Has anyone on here made that switch. I really don’t know what transmission I would be looking for. Also would the dent side pedals work?
Just need a donor truck with manual tranny in it. I couldnt get into Fordi for some reason. Not sure on the 67s but does it have all manual brakes? Power steering? There could possibly be a lot more to swap than just a trans and pedal assembly. Without adapters and extra work, T18 and NP435 will swap straight in.
My comment on this; think long and hard about converting to manual from automatic.
I thought I would like to do this someday also. Then I was at a car show and some old-timers talked me out of it. For these trucks, auto is much nicer.
Stop and go driving these days, and a good automatic will be much appreciated.
I have an NP435 and all accompanying hardware (except clutch pedal) sitting in my garage. My project is switching over to a TKX transmission and hydraulic clutch. I even bought new bushings and stuff for the linkage rebuild before I decided to go hydraulic. Let me know if you're interested.
The T18 and NP435 are fine trannies. Though the only benefit over an auto from the same time period I can think of in an F100 is engine braking if you're on a lot of hills.
If you have the time and skill, might consider a Tremec tkx (as already mentioned)...five speed with easier and faster shifting than a T18 or NP435. Another option is the Tremec tr4050 which has gear ratios more suited for a truck if you're towing.
In the auto category, it's worth mentioning the Ford 6r80. There is an adaptor kit available. You'd get a modern 6 speed auto with lock up torque converter...about as nifty as you can get in an F100.
Any tranny swap option only requires time, skill, and a chunk of money...
