Modern transmission in a 69 F100

1969 F100 360 LWB

Is there a modern-ish transmission I can put behind my 360/390? RPMs are so high on the freeway I just can't take it anywhere. A five or six speed tranny would be super nice. If so would I need to make any modifications to anything else to make it work? Thanks in advance.

Contact Modern Driveline - TREMEC T5/TKO/T56 Transmission Conversions & Performance Parts for a QuickTime bellhousing and a Tremec TKO-500.

.... Uh-oh, too rich for ya?

Re-gear to a 2.75, 2.79, or a 3.00.

Thanks guys. I'm really liking the NV4500 idea. Will have to convert it to manual but I wanted a stick shift originally anyway. Will I need some type of adapter or other modifications for it?

Hey Smellii,
Here's the link to the nv4500 write up. Installing the NV4500 Overdrive Transmission .: Articles
Thought about this myself for my '68, but...I bought a '76 automatic and went with the Bendtsen adapter and 700R4 behind my mildly built 390. Love it.

Thanks, Bart. I, actually, already found your page and added it to my favorites. I'm going to go through it after I graduate on Tuesday. Thanks for the write up.

Smelli, Short answer is NO. You do not want 4/5/or 6spd, you want Overdrive. All direct drive trannys are 1 to 1 ratios.

As HIO noted the least expensive choice it swapping the rear end ratio to a lower number.
