I ordered a new vent window latch part number 49-7675 from LMC Truck hoping it would come with a new shaft to mount to the window frame. Unfortunately, not. Does anyone have a part number for the bracket + shaft that goes into the window frame? It looks like there are 2 rivets that can be drilled out to remove the bracket that holds the latch shaft.
Are you sure you have locking latch shafts...well that does not really matter, since yours are broke off anyway. Pretty sure your replacement shaft HAS to be for locking vent wing latches. Meaning none locking vent wings use a different shaft. Here these might help. So you are looking for # 21608?
So were are these rivets you see? Under the shaft mount bracket? I have never seen a way to replace just the shaft and the bracket it is attached to. But I have not ever had to replace just the shaft. Here is what it looks like when it comes out as an assembly.
Thanks 77 and&79F250, I was hoping to not have to buy the whole 21608. It's about $80 from either LMC Truck or Dennis Carpenter. The other option seems to be buying the whole vent window assembly used on ebay for $50 (questionable) to $80(okay condition).
I'd like to stay with most of what I have existing on the truck as it's not in bad shape. I didn't know if there was a part number out there for just the vent window bracket/shaft, or a method for replacing just the shaft. The bracket is a separate piece and looks to be riveted, or spot-welded in.
I see they do sell vent window latch brackets, but for earlier truck models. Without the proper features machined on the shaft to engage the locking mechanism.
I have been keeping a set handy since not long after I started driving in 1970 after seeing a friend get in my car via the vent wing. In about 2022 as I put my truck back together, I couldn't find the set I knew I had, so I ordered these as they are the same. I found my old set, untarnished chrome, etc ..... in my behind seat storage. Seeing as they are older than the oldest of Dents, they are period correct enough for me.
If you want a shaft, the Ebay option sounds reasonable.
Thanks tbear853, I had thought about the vent window locks. If they keep the windows tightly shut against wind and rain that would be a good option. I guess I'm a bit torn as I'm replacing the seals and window belts. I don't want to have to tear the window belts back out if I find a good deal on a vent window frame. se la vie
