Timing

I don’t need to time my truck but it would be good to know if I ever need to…..Just wanting to know how to properly time my 1949 f1 with a flat 6 (226) converted to 12v. I read something about a sight glass on the bell housing which I haven’t found. Any input on all there is to know about timing.

It is all in the shop manual - you should get one if you don't have one. It outlines using the timing marks on the front cover in conjunction with markings on the damper.

That excerpt is from the engine tune up section. Go back to Chapter 4, Part One, Section 1 on the ignition system... It shows the various timing mark styles, which one to use with which setups, how to determine TDC and so on...

There is no "sight glass" on the bell housing.

There is a clutch inspection cover that can be accessed under the transmission hump in the cab, but it has nothing to do with timing.
