I am assuming you keep your trash cans in the garage?
Several years ago a guy that delivered newspapers in the early AM told me he saw a bear ambling down our alley. And our current plastic trash can lids have chew holes in them.

Middle of the night I heard a thud on my deck, went to check and there’s a bear eating trash. My 92 year old neighbor had left his trash cans out, apparently the bear thought it would be more pleasant to eat on my deck.
We can’t leave trash bins out. Put em out on the morning of pick up and hope the bears don’t come before the trash truck.

I think it is a sleuth of bears, but the internet also suggests sloth, pack, and maul... However, the E in FTE isn't for etymology, is it?
