I have a 1972 F600 with manual steering. Can you adapt power steering to it and if so what components do you need and where do I get them. What donor truck will work?
You can. The were offered with PS as OEM. I'm not sure which of these components is different from manual steering. The donor would be from those listed here-'67 to '72 B & F 500-750. You need to look real close at a donor to confirm it's the same.
The HF-54 PS box was used both before and after '72 in the F600, so a donor truck could be from a wider range of years than Bill suggests in that linked post from 2019.
One PS line exits from the backside of the PS box's valve body so it kind of wraps around to get back to the front of the engine; the rest is straightforward. Be advised that if you're working with an FT engine (V8) and not the 300ci Six, in order to get the PS box into place on the frame, the FSM says you have to unbolt the engine/trans from their mounts and shift it toward the passenger side in order to obtain clearance, and that means taking up the floor mat and removing the transmission floor cover.
It's a lot easier to access the PS box on the F700+ models.
