Welcome to FTE

From what DaveF has posted I believe the answer is yes it should bolt to the transmission but .............
1- Would be how the 2 get shifted from 4x2 to 4x4 to low range.
2- The other would be driveshafts and how they bolt to the transfer cases.
I cant think of anything else but if I am wrong I am sure someone will say something.

If you have the shifter for the 1984, you should be able to make it work, may take some floor modifications. And like was mentioned, the output of the 84 may be the same or may be different. If it's different and both trucks were the same wheel base, you may be able to use the 1984 rear driveshaft. You can definitely make it work, you just need the right parts to do it.
