Reprogram for smaller gas tank?

This is a 2025 F350 work truck that the original 40gal gas tank had to be removed and a 30gal tank fabricated, it has the original fuelpump/sending unit assembly and the gas gauge isn't reading correct, can this be reprogrammed? Is it something a dealer has to do, I have the NGS scanner for OB2 on my OBS Ford, is that adaptable?

The level isn't right, or the miles to empty?

I would assume the level would still read right? Because it works on a pendulum. If the container is half full, the pendulum would be in the middle etc

It's no different for those who had a larger tank, The problem is getting the miles to empty to register correctly has been a challenged on the 23 plus trucks

Now if the tank isn't the same "tallness" and the pendulum arm is at the bottom of its stoke because the tank is taller, it will never read right. You'll be reading empty way before the tank is.

The tank height is the same as the factory so the swing is the same and 'Full' is gauge full as well as empty, I am still road testing and don't fully understand the whole picture, but, when the fuel gauge is at the 1st quarter mark it'll take about 3 gallons to fill it, I've done that 3 times now and it is consistant. I haven't had the time, yet, to drive further as part of my initial testing was to make sure the tank did not overflow when the the filler nozzle clicked 'OFF' and that the tank was 'Full'.
Before the tank went into the truck I tested it with the sending unit in place and it read 120ish ohms when full, zero when empty, it is the original Ford Fuelpump assembly, springloaded and in contact with the tank bottom.
Edit: it read 120ish ohms when empty & 0 when full, I got bassackwards there, my mistake.

Interesting, I'm assuming this is a cab and chassis with the 40 gal. They do offer a 26.5 midship tank, as a stand-alone for situations like needing space behind the rear axle. Perhaps you can swap that programming?

All my newer chassis have dual tanks, I find it's humorous that the rear is marked as a 40, but every time I fill it it's 42 gallons. It's kind of goofy how it draws from one tank, automatically switches to the other, drains it completely, then switches back to the other tank.

When they built the tank, did they neck up the new tank or is it still got the factory squareness?

I wish I had known of the smaller tank, the truck is a cab chassis, long wheelbase with a long utility bed,

Heres the tank, sorry about the photo size, the tall part (factory height w/original pump assembly) is just in front of the rear axle, the drop part in under the main crossmember, then it rises up to run to the transmission crossmember, each section is vented with -4JIC and run to a manifold in the filler hose near the 'fill' fitting in the utiltity bed.
The truck, now, is back at the Ford dealer, there is a problem with the charging system (it may affect the gauge readings as well, and they'll see about recalibrating for the fuel. I should have it back tomorrow for additional road testing, I'll let you know.

It sure is an interesting build, where does the fuel enter at?

In the main part of the tank or by the fuel pump?

It enters high on the side near the fuel pump, this is the tall section and inlet fittings.

Heres an interior shot showing the baffles etc
