Shifting into 2nd

Hi all! I have a question regarding shifting into 2nd gear. She's an 82 F151, 300ci, 4 speed manual.
Some of you may remember that I was on here before asking about my trans install.
It was rebuilt and I reinstalled it. I took it for a test drive and the only issue I had was shifting into 2nd gear. It seems to shift fine at slow speed. But, at a certain point though (while moving faster) it grinds if I try to shift into 2nd. I can depress the clutch pedal a bit and feel a small movement towards 2nd then it will go all the way in once I release the clutch pedal completely.
Is this an adjustment issue?
Thanks guys!

What 4sp do you have a granny first and if so are you starting in granny and into 2nd or 2nd into 3rd like most of us do when not loaded?
or
A 3sp with over drive making it a 4sp?

Does the clutch use linkage or hydraulic.
The we / I can give a little info on what to check.
Dave ----

PS what lube are you using in the transmission and how cold does it get where you are at?

Well that's a start.
When you did the trans rebuild / install did you go over the linkage really good checking for wear?
Mine had a lot of wear on the rod from pedal arm to the cross shaft at both ends to the point it was almost wore through.

Also the cross shaft has bushings at both the frame side and motor side and if the bushings are bad you will not get full clutch movement.

Were dose the clutch start to grab? How far off the floor? How much free play does it have?
Have you tried to adjust the clutch any and did it make any defiance?

You did not say what lube you used in the trans and I dont know what it should take, maybe 75w-90 gear oil or is it ATF?
Have you checked the level since you installed the trans?

That is all I can think of that you could check as the rest is inside the trans like bad parts used or setup not right.
My NP435, granny first, has a hard time going into 3rd going up or down shifting. It is worst when the trans / lube is cold and I always double clutch when going into 3rd gear.
Part of it could be the over drive unit being in front of the NP435 and not letting the transmission slow down / disconnect? The NP435 is a slow shifting truck transmission so I dont 'speed shift" it.
I am also using Red Line MT-90 lube as it is what the over drive unit calls for and has helped the trans shift better.
Hope you find something you may have overlooked.

Who rebuilt the transmission? Take it back to them and complain about it. Let them drive it.

The linkage was all gone through when I got the new clutch plate pressure plate etc. It was shifting fine.
The fluid was a Motorcraft brand for this manual transmission.
I just checked the fluid and it runs out as soon as I take the nut off.
I have adjusted the clutch but it did not seem to help. I have loosened it all back up and will adjust it as if it was just replaced.
It engages at about 1/2 way up from the floor.
I the transmission has been bad since I got the truck so this is an adjustment and it may be that I have to go slower to shift into 2nd.
Also, the transmission was supposed to take almost 3 qts but only took 2... thought that was weird.

As to a proper adjustment, shouldn't it engage when the pedal is a couple of inches from the floor?

I also like mine to grab close to the floor but that's me.
