My 2010 F150 extra cab 4x4 5.4L with 140,000 miles runs real rough when cold for 5 or 6 minutes then runs smooth as silk after it starts warming up.. Trying to figure out what the issue is; no codes come up. Wondering if it could IAC or PVC or what? only doing it when cold is mystery to me. Any help appreciated.
could be a vacuum leak. best to start with the basics and clean the air filter, inspect PVC, clean the throttle body, and clean the MAF. check for general tightness and condition while in there.
but yeah, with all the stupid vacuum hoses Ford uses to run the 4x4 system (IWE) and the HVAC system, it's relatively easy for a vacuum leak to occur. especially when cold. My Excursion has a leak when it's colder than 60F outside. HVAC defaults to defrost. lol. Once the truck underhood warms up, the leak seals and HVAC acts normal. I've bought replacement lines, but just too lazy to deal with the issue now
Well it threw a misfire code on #1 cylinder, so I replaced the spark plug first NGK platinum. Still had misfire when cold so I ordered one Motorcraft coil online and will see if that resolves it. Going to replace all of the plugs and coils a little later cause they been in there for a while. I wouldn't think a fuel injector would cause this only when cold; seems like it would do it all the time.
