The inside of my hinge post bottom is heavily pitted. I need to splice in a bottom replacement. I will rig up a support in the doorway prior to removal.
I also cut off a section of the cab support and will have to replace the severed section.
You may be right about replacing the entire floor. That may be in my future.
From what I can tell the cab mount rides on the seam in the firewall and supports the pan with spot welds. Does that mean I can remove the pan from the mount without support since it riding on that seam? Ahhhh ... I think I will add a support to top of door jamb to be on the safe side, but then the idea that weight is being supported by the pan seems comical. I imagine attaching the pan to the mount simply solidifies the floor.
I hope to get a quick response to this.
Without the floor pan, the mount would fold over at the seem. I take it the cab mounts are whats holding the weight now.
I think that the weight of the cab is being supported by the mount, from the seam directly to the frame. Clearly, that is how it supports the weight by riding on that seam. You can see that in one of photos in this thread. The section of the cab mount that holds the pan/floor merely stabilizes the floor. I mean the section of the mount that supports the floor is held to the main part of the mount with 3 spot welds only.
But in case I'm wrong I'll add a support before I cut out the pan.
Hey guys. I also have some spots on the inside of the doors that have some rust, pits, but not all the way through the metal. Is there a way to neutralize the rust, instead of cutting out and welding in new sections?
If so, can someone recommend a product for neutralizing the rust?
