Really need help with diagnosing
I have a 1978 F-250 351M C6 auto NP205 4x4 and it makes a really bad whirring and grinding noise when I'm in any drive gear R D 2 1 N and P are quiet and I can hear the whirring slowly go down and it doesn't whir unless in the gears and I'm moving. I can feel it through the transfer case stick and can hear it outside the truck when moving ATF doesn't smell burnt or wrong. Transfer case is full of fluid and correct not much to go wrong in those cases and it moves fine into 4H or 4L or 2H. None of the front hubs are locked and I moved all tires individually and they didn't make noise. And it goes with Engine RPM when in drive gears higher RPM louder it is. And all gears shift crisp and clean.

Sorry, but I don’t hear a thing extra in the video. Just the engine running.
But your description sounds almost like the parking pawl is only half engaged. Or I should say (because it doesn’t do it in park or neutral), is only half disengaged.
