2002 E350 V10 139k miles. After it sits for a couple of days it stumbles and runs ruff for about 10 seconds. Throws lean codes. From what I understand and have been told the check valve in the fuel pump that holds pressure in the fuel rail is not holding pressure. The known fix is fuel pump replacement. I’d like to just add an aftermarket check valve somewhere between the tank and fuel filter or somewhere before the fuel rail. Any advice, suggestions, or experience appreciated.
Not familiar with the 2002 but usually the fuel pump runs for a few seconds when the key is turned to the RUN position. Try leaving the key in RUN for a few seconds before turning the key to START. That might give some insight...
Does it run better from cold start if you cycle the key to run a couple of times before starting?

At first it only did it if it sat for a week. Now it does it after a few hours.
Yes, I used to tell people to expect fuel pump failure around 110k
The fuel pumps last a little longer these days, now that they run on a duty cycle, and not just run constantly
Your 02 will be a 2 fuel line system, with a pressure tap, the pump on yours runs constantly
