I agree, calling out other products does help engage better design, however, Gale is obnoxious about it. He seems to be more interested in trashing other companies (not even necessarily their products) moreso than just presenting his own products. His products are good products, and IME they seem to speak for themselves. There is no sense in him being so petty about his competition.
Ego. Probably believes he is the best of the best with his stuff, maybe he is, but I would call it Ego how he does things.
