Coolant flow direction?

The hose on the left is from engine to heater core and hose on the right is heater core to other side of engine and that is the flow direction correct?

I've uploaded a video showing you how to unlock the connection if you want to do that. If you don't know how it works, it can be frustrating.

The black part is attached to the hose and can then be pulled off. Grey part stays where it is..

So which direction is the flow through the aftermarket spin-on coolant filter mounted by the passenger side battery? Is the flow toward or from the degas bottle?

Thank you! That is exactly how mine is plumbed. I guess I didn’t realize there was any other way to plumb them because every one I’ve ever seen was just like that. . . and that’s how the directions say to do it.

It seemed like that should be the flow direction in my mind but the 3/8 hose from the degas to the top of the radiator was throwing me off. It seems like hot water should be flowing into the top of the radiator and out the bottom and since that little hose connects to the top. . . is it a return line?

It's a degas line that removes any air (gases) that could build up in the radiator, preventing coolant from being exposed to all the cooling fins. Many vehicles today have degassing paths. The other one we have is at the top of the intake manifold, so any gas bubbles from coolant boiling in the EGR cooler will be removed from the coolant path by going to the degas bottle.

I was going thru coolant at an alarming rate. I would drive 20 miles and the degas bottle would be empty. I’d fill it up, drive 20 miles and it it would be full to the top. Drive home and empty again. I went and bought a turkey baster to pull it out and the next day put some back. And the whole time I would be pegged on ECT of 188 - 192. EOT would be 190 to 196. Then I finally figured it out. . . went to Ford and laid down $17 for a new degas bottle pressure cap. So far, 280 miles of interstate pulling a fairly light 12 x 7 box trailer and the coolant level has held perfect. ECT is running from 186 - 190. EOT is running 188 - 192 at 70 mph. On a long pull they might creep up around 194.

In case anyone cares, 2004 F-350 with 196,0000 miles, KDD Icon aluminum heads, O-Dawg S3 intake, KC Turbo stage 1.5, River City cam, ARP studs, blue spring, new BPD aluminum tank radiator, new FoMoCo oil cooler, HPOP, water pump, ficum, AC compressor, tunes by Warren Diesel. Switched over to CAT EC1. Stayed with the original injectors because I spent all my money! Ordered the turbo with the 10 blade wheel so it whistles like an angry sewing machine. All done at 160,000 miles.

The hot street tune is downright scary. I can’t leave it on hot street because of the 2 miles of dirt driveway and dirt road out to civilization. Every bump I hit causes my foot to bounce and press the pedal and spin the wheels! It’s nice to know I can roll coal if I want to but I drive it pretty normally. This thing is a sleeper but can run like a scalded dog if a MOPAR guy decides to show off his Cummapart.

Don’t overlook the coolant cap!!!

Rolling coal is for dumb teenagers IMHO and hot tunes are just asking for trouble even on a studded engine the HG's can still give out. I gave the MPD tune a try for like a whole week then came to my senses and got myself a custom, stock'ish tune so now I'm sitting around 40hp over stock and that's plenty of power for me. Why risk it know what I mean

Warren provided me with 3 tunes: Hot Street, Normal Street and Trailer Towing. I generally stay with Normal Street. Occasionally switch to tow tune if I’m pulling my gooseneck car carrier. I leave the tire squalling for my 1973 Plymouth Road Runner. My serious drivers are Fords but my toys are Mopars. There’s no replacement for displacement! 400 CI stroked with a 440 crank to 451 CI. 😜
