Welcome to FTE!

Yes, C600 with 330. I'll get back to you tomorrow on the rest. Figure '60s for age but I need to look at the serial number list to be sure.

C61 = C600 gas

C = 330 2V MD FT gas V8. Medium Duty uses FE crank and distributor drive, possibly water pump.

U = Louisville Assembly Plant

D44572 = 1968 numerical series, June 1968 production

Beware of widowmaker wheels.

Brake parts are available but there are no new drums available.

Shop manuals can be found on line:

Or used paper & CD copies:

And on and on and on if you do a search for "1968 ford c600 shop manual".

Piston size for a 1968 ford c-600, 330 ci medium duty engine

Hello, i got a bad piston in this old piece of yard art, 1968 c 600 with 330ci medium duty, need to order a new one, i took t gauge readings at multiple bore locations and measured 3.9005
what size piston and rings should i get? Its being used as a flat bed utility truck to haul ****, not a hot rod. Im
just replaci g this single piston, and any ideas who may stock such a piston?? Thanks!

I merged your threads as you're not going to get much traction in the pickup forum on this subject and you already had your decode here. I don't know what your poll was about but.....

The listed bore for a 330 is 3.875". So at 3.9005 you have a possible .0255" piston clearance. This does not compare favorably with the OEM spec of .0025-.0033".

You will have a piston slapping oil burner if you don't already.

So say you put in a new standard piston. It might break on start up, or it might bang around for a while.

Or you go .040 for under $100 plus rings:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/386176213552

Note that appears to be a 4 ring piston. There are pics, and other 330 FT pistons shown if you scroll down the page. Are yours 3 or 4 ringers?

Higher price:

You might find singles on e-bay but most of the time you'll be buying a set. No one wants 7 pistons laying in the bin.

If you went even .030 over, and for certain .040, you need to have the block bored. You could spend a week with a hone I suppose, but by the time you get done with that you'll have a pretty good mess of grindings all over.

Or you could just look for a used 330 or 361 and slap it in there.

Its a 3 ring. 2 compression ring grooves, and an oil ring groove. Thanks for the links to summit and ebay. I really just need 1 piston and unfortunately summit wants to sell me all 8 of the .020 over pistons. Know of any junkyards that have a collection of these trucks or 330 engines?

You can't hone an oval/tapered bore round and parallel, and bores wear both oval and tapered. If the above numbers are real, you'll need to start over with another FT engine, or plan on a rebore.

[later]
Most telescoping gauges don't resolve to .0005" (unless you've got serious high-end metrology equipment). How certain are you about that 3.9005"?
