I posted my problem earlier and received diagnosis of failing ECM causing engine to die, cough, and backfire at about 30MPH when accelerating. Hunt for replacement ECM shows that they are not for high altitude and experts say that regular ECM will not work. But nothing is shown to be available for high altitude replacement. I bought the truck new in Denver so assume it came with the high altitude package. Does anyone actually know if the regular ECM will not replace the high altitude version. It was replaced a long time ago but can't identify anything on existing one.
Sorry I cant say if it will or will not work.
I take it no numbers on the one you have now to go by?
I also take it none in junk yards near you to grab?
I would try the one you can get as I would think it would "bolt in" ad the only thing I can see being different is the "tune", like fuel trim and timing.
Have you opened yours up to see if any of the caps have gone bad?

You are calling it a "ECM" but that can lead to confusion. Your truck has no computers on it, just a carb and a "ICM" or ignition control module. The different ICM models went by the color of the plastic where the wires go in. What color plastic does your module have? Standard was blue. High altitude models were yellow. If you truely do have a high altitude model, it will have yellow plastic around where the wires go in. And it also might have a spot for a vacuum sensor to plug into the module that monitors engine vacuum.
