Just recently picked up a 2008 super duty with the v10 and have been reading about some of the problems they have. Aside from the common exhaust leaks and factory spark plugs breaking, it seems like they had issues with the roller rockers failing during some years, and also suffered from insufficient oil pressure to the top end, especially at idle. Are either of these issues (or any others) something I should be concerned about? Did certain years have issues or is it all 05 and up engines? Thanks
Interesting, I haven't seen that with Ford V-10s, can you point me at what you found?
From what I’ve read, the 3v v10s suffered from some of the same issues the 3v 5.4s did. Mainly low oil pressure at idle with the stock oil pump, and the roller rockers failing (due to lack of oil or just bad?) and wiping out cam lobes. I also saw a thread a while back about a fleet manager having a bunch of v10 trucks failing, and I think he found that the timing chain tensioner seals were leaking and losing oil pressure causing the failures, also common on 5.4s. The v10 uses the same rockers, lash adjusters, and timing chain tensioners as the 5.4. Ford updated the rockers at some point but I’m not sure what all years of the 3v v10 were prone to issues, maybe all? I’m sure keeping good oil in them and not letting them idle excessively probably helps.
while the OP states 2011 to 2013 that thread pertains to the 3 valve 2005 and newer .and in all regards since the v10 is really a 5.4 with 2 extra holes, sharing a lot of parts, what goes wrong in a 5.4 can possibly go wrong in a v10
