Has anyone installed the Transgo 6R80-VBR-WT kit? Any problems while doing so?
I'm having an issue where the solenoid valve they supplied (2x now) is out of round. After reaming out the cylinder for it, the valve won't fit into the recess. Transgo sent me a replacement valve that wasn't as bad, but still didn't fit. They suspect the cause is due to thermal treating during manufacture. I can roll both valves on my phone screen and you can see them wobble while making a noise. Really frustrating since the truck has been down a week now due to this. Luckily the lube valve cylinder reamed out perfectly and that valve slides with no issues.
Today I ordered a different 6R80-VBR-NT (no tools) kit. Hoping since it's coming from another source that maybe it will be from a different batch...and not faulty like last 2.
I opened the trans up to replace the Lead Frame and install a few fixes/upgrades. My lead frame acted up once last month leaving me stranded for a few minutes. The trans also has a delayed 2-1 downshift, and sometimes a weird 3rd gear upshift. It was my hope the 2 shift kits would address the 2 issues. Installing cooler bypass because it lets you adjust trans level immediately without the 190F warmup.
That is not good. Seems to be a lot of manufacturing that is not good right now. I would have thought Trans Go was not part of that. But I guess they are. Sorry to hear it. Hope you get it sorted out.
I don’t know if it’s a manufacturing issue, or unrealistic specs. I had 2 valves that weren’t perfectly straight. AND the valves are only 0.001” smaller than the bore after reaming.
looking at videos of the install, the transmission industry knows the bore clearances are too tight, so they hone the bore a bit.
i ended up re-reaming the bore with my drill press 1/8” at a time. It took forever and an entire bottle of WD-40. Effectively I honed the bore. The 3rd valve finally fit
truck is all back together, and she is shifting nicely with the 3 Transgo kits installed. I recommend their products though. They made every effort to make it right for me
