Has anyone ever seen one of these? I got it with a 52 F1 I bought a few years ago. This is a Canadian truck so I’m not sure if it was only produced here. I can’t find any pictures of one on the internet. It’s definitely same style as 51-52 tailgates. Let me know what you think. Doug.
That's exactly what it is, a 51-2 Canadian Ford tailgate. You'll notice the center panel is wider than the outer panels compared to the US 3 square panel tailgates. Ford of Canada increased the size of the center panel to fit the Mercury stamping, and the Ford gates had block lettering instead of the script, which was similar to the Merc style. It's a pretty rare piece.
My 51 Mercury M3 is shaped like yours as well.
mine was taken off truck brand new and leaned against barn wall, A homemade gate with a grain door was installed.
Most perfect part of truck when I brought it home here.
