Hello. I notice that some of the repro tailgates have a series of rivets or screws along the top and/or bottom edges. Are they all produced that way now? Ideally, I’d like to have one that looks like the original with none of those, while also having the Ford script. Could anyone guide me to a parts company that makes reproductions like original? Thx!
I can assure you the original tailgates were not totally smooth. The spotwelds were present as these were work trucks and no one cared about such things back then. Under the paint, rust and dirt on this original gate, you can see the divots here. If you want them to be smooth, it's not hard to run a grinder over them, a quick wipe with body filler, a little primer and sanding and it'll look show ready.
